College and Academic counseling for all ages.

I have worked with students and writers of all ages, helping people find access to the way they think on the page. With creative exercises and personal coaching, you can find the inner confidence you need to change the way you think about writing, and unlock the wellspring of rich imaginative and creative power that will inform your next steps, today and for your whole future. Writing is a wonderful academic tool, but that is only one of the many gifts that this discipline can bring you.

Because writing allows you to find your own motivations, explore your obstacles, and research your true interests, it has the power to transform the direction of your life. Listening to the inner wisdom of your own voice on the page gives you access to an inner authority. Helping you find that wisdom is the goal of my teaching.

Although I’m a writer, when it came to helping our son write college essays, I knew we needed to bring in a professional to avoid unnecessary conflict. Charity Hume stepped into the role of a writing coach and facilitated exercises to guide our son through the essay-writing process. He dug deep and came up with essays that he was proud to share in his applications for college. Once he began applying for scholarships, he had a body of work to adapt for various questions. Our son was accepted into two of the three schools he applied to and received two $5,000 private scholarships. Charity’s coaching was instrumental in gaining college acceptances and scholarship funds – and it also preserved my relationship with my son.

Throughout the college process, Charity Hume was an incredible mentor. She guided and illuminated thoughtfully while leaving all choice up to me. Looking back, I can see my growth as a writer– I ended up with essays that I am still proud of. Charity helped me achieve success in the college process, and she has my highest recommendation.

The ingenious and sometimes unorthodox tools in The Wisdom in the Room will allow the reader to acknowledge, unpack, and surpass barriers that prohibit them from achieving their full potential as teachers, students, writers and lifelong learners. After using the exercises, I was left with several bodies of work— clear, honest, and heartfelt— that I feel contributed to my being named both a Ron Brown and a Gates Millennium Scholar.
